Lucy has a friend his name is Elmo.
Elmo is one of the 3 words she knows well - up and Papi are her other two favorites. While eating she likes to give pieces of her food to Elmo and also stops eating periodically to shriek Elmo! When we ask her, "donde esta Elmo?" she immediately stops what she's doing to track him down, give him kisses and then bring him to us with such exuberance that you can't help but smile. This is particularly helpful when she's getting into something she shouldn't but unhelpful when you have your hands dirty in the kitchen and she brings you Elmo and you can't give him hugs and kisses because then she collapses into a puddle of tears, as if how could you not love Elmo as much as I do? If she bumps her head, or knee or toe we bring her Elmo and usually the tears stop and she starts to giggle. Just looking at Elmo can make her giggle.
Last night she woke up just as I was about to crawl into bed next to her and as I snuggled up close to her to help her fall back asleep she spit out her pacifier and let out a loud shriek, "ELMO!" " Shush, shush, mi vida, aqui esta Elmo". She whispers "Elmo" again, closes her eyes and falls asleep. This morning I woke up to "Elmo, Elmo, Elmo, Elmo, Elmo" and giggles.
She has friend who makes her laugh, keeps her out of trouble, makes her feel better when she's sad and who she thinks of at night before she falls asleep and first thing in the morning.
So little and with so much love.
