Story time

(source)

We walked to story time today.  She snug in her carrier pressed against my chest, occasionally looking up at me and smiling.  I point out things to her as they pass....red truck, puerta azul, grass, arbol, un senor, un perrito, un pajaro....she looks at me blankly, staring in wonder at the leaves rustling in the warm September breeze.

We pass the fire station, several firemen are outside cleaning one of the firetrucks.

I whisper to her in Spanish, "your great-grandpa was a fire chief".  I think of my grandfather, he died when I was 15.  I remember climbing on the trucks as a young child and cheering with pride when he would march pass in a parade, "that's my grandpa", I would say, "he's a firefighter".

Back in high school a hippie friend and I went into a headshop and the owner told my friend about the amazing, colorful aura she could see around her.  When I asked about my aura, I was told that I don't have one.  The woman dressed in batik told me that I have a big old man who watches out for me and lets me go a little off track to learn but when I've gone too far off he pulls be back.  I think he's grandfather.  He watches me.  He watches my daughter.  I am grateful to know that he's there.

I still wonder though, why don't I have an aura?  Was I not born with one?  Or did I somehow lose it along the way?  How do I go about acquiring an aura?  I think I'd like one.

Before & After

This was an incredibly simple transformation.  I bought the chair for $15 because I loved the design on the back but it was too traditional for my tastes and the fabric was ugly and worn.   I sanded the chair down, painted it white and reupholstered the seat for a whole new look.

Summer Brights

We're post labor day and officially heading into fall but how colorful and sunny does this little nook look?  It makes me want to drink a cup of coffee and soak up the last rays of summer sunshine.

Lucia's Nursey

Happy Monday!  For today I thought I'd share my little chickadee's nursery.  I wanted it to be a bit girly but not overly so.  For colors I was primarily inspired by the bedding from Liberty of London for Target.  I really loved the pinks with the yellow, orange and blue and based the room around those colors.  When I was pregnant I came across this lovely lunch done by Sunday Suppers and fell in love with the flower garland, beautiful isn't it?

So I decided to make my own by following Martha's instructions and template for making fabric roses and peonies and then I strung them together with fishing line.

The blue frame over the crib was found on the street and repainted, I wrote a post about it on my old blog way back when.  I then took a cardboard "L" from Joann's and covered it with batting and then fabric and centered it in the frame. The print is from Grace Hester Designs on etsy.  We speak Spanish at home so I think that it's twinkle, twinkle little star in Spanish is very fitting.

The space definitely needs a rug to pull it together but all in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Dance Party in My Head

In efforts to lose the baby pooch 9 months post Lucia's arrival I've been trying to go for runs more often.  When I run all sorts of thoughts go through my head.... I'm sooo exhausted, how can I get Lucia to sleep through the night?....what should I make for dinner?.....I wonder if my butt is too noticeably jiggly in these yoga pants....oh my! That woman is running really fast, I should be running faster!...how much further?   When I run I often think about my clients, replaying my sessions in my head..examining what I could have done differently.  Somedays thinking about all this stuff is a good thing, it helps me process, other days it seems that I get even more wrapped up in my own head.  Then there are days when I have a dance party in my head- I listen to pop, rap and reggaeton which aren't usually part of my musical rotation and I envision myself in some fabulous outfit, dancing...twisting, turning, bumping and grinding.  I'm not a great dancer, nor am I a big club go-er but somewhere in my head I'm pretty awesome.  Those are the days when I have the best runs.  I run fast.  I run happy and I forget about my jiggly butt.  What do think about when you run?  Please let me not be the only person who has the occasional dance party.....
